The last few weeks have been an exercise in remembering how to dress myself for going out in public. After spending a year completely indoors rarely seeing anyone else, I kind of forgot what normal clothes were. Have bras always been this restricting? Did I really used to wear high-waisted, rigid denim for eight hours sitting at a desk? As I slowly make my way back into the outside world, sometimes reaching for pieces I haven’t worn in over a year, I have more questions than answers. At this point, what I do know is that I still value comfort over everything else, but dressing like a normal human actually feels good. I’ve also been wearing a bright lip almost every day since watching Taylor Swift’s folklore documentary on Disney+ because I feel like it distracts from my hair that hasn’t been dyed in two years and is still falling out from stress (IYKYK). I’m still adjusting to wearing a bra when I go places (ugh) and coming to terms with the fact that skinny jeans aren’t cool anymore (thanks a lot, Gen Z), but dusting off my old wardrobe feels like walking around a neighborhood you used to live in (which I am actually also doing for real after moving two weeks ago!) and I’m just excited for brighter days ahead.
