I included this in a recent newsletter, but since I use and love it so much, I couldn’t not share it here as well. While standing at valet with my friend Cristina recently, she whipped out a chic little card case: a deep royal blue with leopards on it that I assumed had been something she’d splurged on over Christmas. It’s the perfect size to slip into your back pocket or an evening bag, and the pattern is undeniably chic—hence why I figured it was Gucci, but was thrilled to find out it was only $24 from Anthropologie.
A few weeks ago, I attended a wellness panel that featured nutritionists and fitness influencers. When asked what they were most excited about in wellness for 2019, several of the panelists said, “euphorics.” In short, euphorics are a new beverage category that include a mix of adaptogens (plants that help manage stress), nootropics (a category of supplements), and nutrients to create a booze-less drink that approximates the feeling of booze. I had my doubts, but over the weekend I tried Kin, and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It didn’t give me exactly the same feeling a glass of wine does—it was more subtle—but it made me feel relaxed and, yes, just a bit euphoric. I don’t think Kin will replace a glass of wine for me, but it’s a great alternative when you don’t quite feel like drinking, but still want a little buzz.
I’ve been a Moleskine evangelist for about 10 years, but my world was rocked when I happened upon this Poketo Project Planner at their shop in Culver City. My work needs to be organized to a T, and it keeps me on track to hit all my goals, both personal and professional. This planner has both weekly and monthly portions, a project-based section, and plenty of lined sheets for notes. It’s a Type A professional’s dream.
I have long, fine hair that breaks VERY easily when I try to comb my hair out after a shower. I’ve been using a wide-tooth comb and detangling spray for years to try to minimize damage, but no matter what, I either break off my hair trying to fight the knots, or my thin hair gets weighed down by detangling spray and too much conditioner. Finally, I found something that actually works!! I found this detangling brush randomly on Amazon, and it makes me think I must have been living under a rock the day the memo went around about how awesome it is.
My friend recently got me this palette as both a gift and a joke. The fact that we, adult women, actively follow an 18-year-old Youtube star is arguably embarrassing, but the glow from this super-affordable palette is no joke. I’m incredibly particular when it comes to highlighters. I want them to be sparkly but not too sparkly, visible but not streaky, and this palette, with both golden and silver hues, does the job.
I really love shoes—platform sneakers, studded slides, velvet mules, embellished booties—I love them all. There are few shoes, however, that spoil your feet quite like a nice pair of Adidas UltraBoosts. The knit sneakers do exactly as their name boasts: they “boost” you with each step. They’re ideal not only for my daily walks (and occasional visits to an actual gym), but also for errands on the weekend, study days in coffee shops, and everything in between. I never want to take them off and luckily I rarely have to, since they go with anything and everything, from my favorite pair of leggings and a chic workout top to cutoffs, a white tee, and my everyday gold jewelry. Come springtime, I’ll be investing in an all-white pair (and maybe a grey pair too).
This book is about the rise and fall of Theranos, the Silicon Valley startup that aimed to revolutionize the medical industry with a new kind of blood testing device. It details the toxic and deceptive environment founder Elizabeth Holmes instilled at the company, and the fraud that eventually took it down. Bonus: a new podcast about the same thing recently came out, so if that’s more your speed, I also recommend listening to The Dropout (especially since it allows you to hear Holmes’ infamously deep voice that is so often mentioned in the book).
It’s become a running joke that every time I see Jonah’s cousin, I end up buying something she’s wearing. She has the best minimal style—she was the first person to tell me about Everlane back in the day—and has an eye for timeless, well-made pieces. At dinner recently, she and her (equally stylish) boyfriend both had the best leather shoes on. Before I could finish gushing about how much I loved them, she’d pulled up the website for the brand Nisolo, an ethically-made line of shoes. The next morning, I purchased a pair of low-heeled mules, and I’m already eyeing a pair of their boots…
When my boyfriend and I traveled to New York last month, two friends who were visiting L.A. stayed at our place (figured we’d save them from having to rent an Airbnb and they watched our cat!). When we returned, they’d left two thank-you gifts: A stunning candle and a Squatty Potty. A little unconventional? Sure. When we called to thank them, they told us they were flabbergasted that we didn’t already own one. Though I thought it was hilarious when I first saw it, I’m no longer laughing. This has fundamentally changed my… let’s call it “bathroom experience” for the better, and I cannot recommend it enough.
They’re BAAAAACK! I’m a diehard Girl Scout cookie fan, but I was actually surprised to find out that most of our office says frozen Thin Mints are their #1 choice. Thin Mints are definitely a close second, but my favorite will always be Samoas (or, Caramel deLites, as we say in the Midwest). Pro tip: While I prefer to buy the real thing, when we’re out of season, Keebler Coconut Dreams taste allllllmost exactly the same.
While I’m trying to be more environmentally conscious, I can admit that it doesn’t always come naturally. I often reach for plastic straws or a to-go cup, and Ziploc bags are my kryptonite. When I saw these reusable bags online, I decided to kick my bad habit and give them a try. I love how they are dishwasher safe, easy to clean, and well-sealed.
I always look forward to a new skincare drop, and no one is better at it than Drunk Elephant! So far it’s been easy to incorporate A-Passioni into my current routine with no irritation, even at its 1% concentration. With additional peptides and marula seed oil, it’s also been moisturizing, and (fingers crossed) so far I haven’t had any flaking or redness. Definitely a great starter retinol product, but also an excellent addition for those who want to try something new in their winter skincare routine.
