Halloween has always been my favorite holiday and I thought I’d be a lot more bummed out about the lack of activities surrounding it this year. But somehow it’s still felt celebratory, albeit in a much quieter way. We’ve decorated the house, been watching thematic movies every Sunday, made witch’s cauldrons and spider puppets, and carved pumpkins earlier in the week. The weather has finally started to shift in LA, with chilly mornings and windy nights, and I’m trying to savor these quiet days at home.
Though we won’t be trick-or-treating tomorrow, there will be plenty of treats, including the Jack Skellington pie I made for the occasion. Since Sloan was originally dressing up as Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas, it felt like a fun way to pay homage to her costume with the first pumpkin pie of the season. She ultimately decided to go as a cat and will be debuting her homemade costume on Zoom with her classmates later today.
Tomorrow we’ll go on a morning walk with coffees and hot chocolates in tow to admire the festive houses before coming back for a little scavenger hunt in the backyard and our annual viewing of It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. Jury’s still out on whether any of our cats will wear the spider costume I got so if you don’t see it all over social media tomorrow, you can safely assume it wasn’t well received. P.S. This is the recipe for the pie (though I didn’t add the caramel) and I followed the steps detailed in this post since it seemed a lot more doable!
