A New Season, Part Two

I remember the first blog post I ever published,13.5 years ago. It was titled “A New Season,” only a few sentences long, and took me the better part of a week to write. It was simple, but optimistic: I wanted to share things that inspired me. I committed to writing five posts a week, despite an audience of three, because it brought me so much joy. And it still does, just in a different way.

Slowly but steadily, my relationship with the blog shifted. I hired someone whose voice I trusted implicitly (hi Leslie, love you, miss you already!) and I focused my attention on emerging product lines, e-commerce, and social media. My enthusiasm and excitement waned as it became more of an obligation to maintain the same cadence people had come to expect. It felt less like a labor of love, writing to meet deadlines and goals, rather than a place to connect over a mutual appreciation of fall weather, cheese boards, and vintage finds. Call me basic, but apparently some things never change. And for the first time in a while, I’m excited to return to that frame of mind.

In the last year and a half, I’ve kept coming back to the importance of comfort, nostalgia, and doing what makes us happy. I know I’m not alone in seeking those things out, and get the sense that we’re all craving a bit more of them lately. So that’s what I’m planning to lean into. When inspiration strikes – whether it’s during a conversation with the team or an idea I have in the middle of the night – you’ll be able to read all about it here. But I won’t be posting daily blog content, as other elements of our business have taken precedence over the past few years. It kills me to know that those of you who’ve made reading cupcakes and cashmere a part of your everyday morning routine will be disappointed. And for that I’m sorry. For now, this is what makes sense and what’s motivating me to get back on this platform with a renewed sense of purpose. Of course you’ll still be hearing from me, other team members, and outside contributors, though in a slightly more spontaneous, imperfect way. I want to take my time on pieces I’m passionate about, share musings that are too long for social media, and explore different types of content we haven’t created before. Fall feels like it’s right around the corner and similar to my first blog post, I’m looking forward to everything that the new season is ushering in. x
