Socks with shoes were big awhile back. In fact, when I tried on this ensemble in the bedroom, Geoffrey (who’s shot nearly every outfit post since the blog began), commented on how he remembered this look years ago—it’s really true what they say about trends cycling back in style. Though there are lots of fun, patterned socks on the market right now, the look can feel unapproachable so I wanted to dip my toe back into the water with a neutral pair. The heavy, gray tone downplays the girly feel of wearing socks with shoes. As for the rest of the outfit, I wanted the look to be polished and sophisticated, so I picked pieces with clean, crisp lines—a simple black dress, tailored coat, and structured bag. With an on-trend metallic shoe and and pastel purple color pop, the look is fun, just without feeling like a school girl.
