The weather in Los Angeles lately has been unpredictable, despite my reliance on up-to-date tracking apps. What might start as a perfectly blue, Southern California day may turn into a flash-flood downpour an hour later, without warning. Since leaving my house in over-the-knee rain boots and a rain coat every day is overkill, I’ve found that a trench is a nice compromise. It’s thick enough that it can protect me from wayward showers and wind, but light and breathable enough that it’s still comfortable as a sophisticated layer on a perfectly sunny day. Here, I contrasted the streamlined lines of the coat with a pretty and feminine dress (see how I styled the pink version of it here)—then took cover at one of my favorite, cozy lunch spots and waited for the storm to pass.
