The color pink gets a bad rep. It’s “too girly,” “too young,” “too bright,” and mixed with other pastels, it can go “too Easter bunny,” dangerously quick. For that reason, I used to avoid pairing pastels, but like most vibrant colors, used sparingly, it can also make an outfit—and what better time to experiment with pink than the week of Valentine’s Day? For a casual weekend outing with G, I mostly stuck to neutrals, then threw on two pops of pastel before heading out the door. The pink—in my hat, and just a touch on my sneakers—mixed with the lavender in my coat added a playful element to my outfit that brought it from immemorable to fresh and pretty, with minimal effort.
