Everything Leslie Wore for a Week in Portland

Plans for the day (outside of work): A Home Depot run for gardening supplies and lots of gardening work—we left town for a few days, and came back to one billion weeds.
One thing that went unexpected: I accidentally knocked the top off half of a tomato plant off, when trying to put a gate around it to protect it against exactly that…
Best part of the day: Reading! Jonah and I ate an early dinner, then spent about three hours reading in the living room. Simple, but great.
What I wore: Miranda Bennett Wrap Top (generously gifted!), Levi’s (my go-to for gardening), Jenni Kayne Slides (before changing into my beloved Sloggers)
Best thing I ate: A Caprese-y salad, with tomatoes, mozzarella, mesclun greens, fresh pesto, and rotisserie chicken

Plans for the day (outside of work): Big cleaning day! Spent every non-working moment cleaning and reorganizing.
One thing that went unexpected: Woke up at 5 AM, because Meesh-the-meower wanted company.
Best part of the day: Reading with Jonah again! I finished The Other Black Girl by Zakiya Dalila Harris, which I loved.
What I wore: When I visited home last week, I did what all good daughters do and raided my mom’s closet and scored a Banana Republic cardigan. Paired it with Agolde denim, a belt from a store in Portland, and Jenni Kayne slides! Oh, and the cutest new shell earrings from the Shop, available in this bundle.
Best thing I ate: The grilled cheese sandwiches Jonah made us for lunch. (The key is putting mayo inside and on the outside of the bread before grilling! Try it before ya knock it.)

Plans for the day (outside of work): Hosting book club! Had a small group over tonight to discuss Malibu Rising. Next up is Crying in H-Mart by Michelle Zauner!
One thing that went unexpected: Thirty minutes before book club was expected to start, my contractor who’s helping us redo our fireplace mantel stopped by to “check out electrical,” which I learned meant digging a trench through our living room wall, spreading a whole lotta dust through the room. Our living room setup became a porch setup for book club, which was actually lovely!
Best part of the day: It feels silly to write about, since it was such a small interaction, but I started my day running errands before work to grab snacks for book club. I felt totally frazzled and grumpy, but on my way home, I realized there was a parking spot directly in front of a barre studio I’ve been meaning to check out. I quickly parked and ran in to ask about their membership, and ended up having such a nice interaction with the manager of the studio, Whitney—chatting about barre, coffee, the neighborhood—that it completely turned my mood and day around.
What I wore: Buck Mason Shirt, Current/Elliot Denim (the same pair I wore every single day on this trip!)
Best thing I ate: A bowl of fresh granola I baked as a “thank you” to the two friends who cat-sat Meesh while Jonah and I were out last week! This recipe is my forever go-to.

Plans for the day (outside of work): Gardened in the morning, took my evening ASL class, and made dumplings for the first time!
One thing that went unexpected: Got a full night’s sleep but felt super lethargic all day.
Best part of the day: Discovering that our zucchini is blossoming! The heatwave we had three weeks ago decimated our garden so any signs of life are a miracle at this point.
What I wore: Madewell Bodysuit, Banana Republic skirt, courtesy of my mom’s closet and the late ’80s—there are photos of her wearing this before I was born!
Best thing I ate: Chive dumplings!

Plans for the day (outside of work): Started this morning with a hike, and heading to drinks with new friends this evening!
One thing that went unexpected: As of this moment, Toast has already eaten half a pillow. His saucy face indicates this will not be the last.
Best part of the day, erm, morning: This morning’s hike in Forest Park.
What I wore: I don’t know yet, ha! It’s 8 AM at the time I’m writing this. So far, I’ve worn my New Balance sneakers and some Vuori… but odds are looking like Agolde Ren Denim and a tank. [Update! I wore a cupcakes and cashmere top, vintage Levi’s and Sezane Sneakers, and did my hair! Who am I??]
Best thing I ate: So far, my coffee! 😉
