I’ve always been a traditionalist when it comes to wall decor and love a gallery collection or a stylish mirror, but lately I’ve been intrigued by unexpected items in lieu of normal prints and paintings. Here are five statement-making decor ideas I love right now.
Hat Wall – A stylist friend had a hat wall in her entryway and it created such a unique vibe that I kind of thought about stealing the idea for our place. She kept her most-worn ones closer to the ground, and displayed items that were in a similar color family.
Small Rugs – The idea of hanging a tapestry seems a little medieval, but I really like the look of a textured piece displayed on a wall. Art can be a hefty investment, but hanging an affordable rug is a more attainable option. Runners are especially great on surfaces that have a unique shape: You can hang them vertically for tall, skinny walls or horizontally on a low, wide area. Don’t forget to use a v-nail or angled nails to accommodate the weight.
Rope with Silk Flowers – My favorite nail salon is perfectly designed. The low slung leather chairs and pink tufted benches are my favorite pieces, but the variety of silk flowers hanging from a long rope makes the biggest statement. I’d hang this above a bed in lieu of a headboard.
Baskets and Trays – Group wicker trays and low seagrass baskets together in a cluster. Choose different sizes, but make sure they’re all the same shape so the overall look is cohesive.
3-D Paper Decals – For a nursery or kids room, I love these 3-D paper decals. We used butterflies for Sloan’s room and she’ll often prop herself up to stare at the shadows created by her nightlight. We went for a monochromatic look that doesn’t stand out, but adds a unique and pretty dimension to the flat surface.
